Banchangyu Great Wall Scenic Area
板厂峪长城景区
About
Banchangyu Great Wall Scenic Area sits about 29 km from downtown Qinhuangdao in a village that served as a logistics base for Ming-dynasty Great Wall construction. Excavations in 2002 uncovered roughly 600 Ming-era brick kilns used to fire wall bricks — the largest such find in China — along with the world's only known fossil of a hyena species, now displayed on site. A steep, undulating stretch of wall known as the "inverted Great Wall" is a favorite subject for photographers, and the park also has a temple, a cave, a narrow rock passage and waterfalls. Autumn foliage against the old wall is a particular highlight. It suits Great Wall enthusiasts, photographers and visitors interested in Ming-era military history and archaeology.

Before you go
- The Ming-dynasty brick kiln ruins here are the largest such find in China and have significant archaeological value — look out for signage or guided commentary.
- The "Upside-Down Great Wall" (Daogua Changcheng) section has rough footing; it's great for photos but watch your step.
- Fall foliage paired with the Great Wall makes for excellent photography, so autumn is the recommended season for photographers.
- The scenic area includes several scattered sites — Tianran Temple, Lingxian Cave, and the Jiudaogang Waterfalls among them — so plan your route before you set out.
Tickets Tickets start around ¥50, though prices and combo packages vary by channel — some sources list ¥100 — so go with the price posted at the scenic area on the day of your visit.
