About

Qipanshan Scenic Area, covering about 1.2 sq km, lies in Qianshangzhuang Village, Liutianzhuang Township, Lulong County — the site of the ancient Guzhu state, where legend says the noble brothers Boyi and Shuqi lived in seclusion. The park takes its name from a large boulder atop the peak resembling a chessboard, with a folk tale claiming its stone "pieces" can be moved but never removed. It also features terraced flower fields and a roughly 600-mu fruit-picking orchard, and served as a model anti-Japanese resistance base during WWII, blending natural scenery, legend and revolutionary history.

Highlights

Frequently asked

Is this Qipanshan the same as the one in Shenyang?

No. This scenic area is in Liutianggezhuang township, Lulong County, Qinhuangdao, while Shenyang's Qipanshan is a separate, unrelated site in Liaoning province with the same name — check carefully when booking.

What does "Immortals at Chess" (xianren duiyi) refer to?

It refers to a summit boulder shaped like a chessboard; legend holds that the chess pieces carved into its grooves can be moved but never removed — hence the name, and it's the scenic area's signature geological curiosity.

What's the best season to visit?

Spring is good for flowers, and autumn is peak season for walnut and fruit picking — both are recommended times to visit.
