About

Beidaihe is a coastal resort on the northern shore of Bohai Bay in Qinhuangdao, Hebei, first opened as a summer retreat by the Qing government in 1898 and later favored by national leaders for its cooler climate. Its roughly 20-kilometer beach has fine sand and calm, shallow water, making it one of northern China's best natural sea-bathing areas. Highlights include sunrise at Pigeon Nest Park, sunset at Tiger Stone Park, hilltop sea views from Lianfeng Mountain, and the historic villa district. It suits families, swimmers, and history or architecture enthusiasts, especially June through September.

Before you go

  • Plan for at least a full day, since the route can link Pigeon Nest Park, Tiger Stone, Lianfeng Mountain, and the Strange House Garden, each with its own admission fee.
  • Watch the sunrise in the morning and the sunset in the evening, and avoid the midday sun.
  • Peak season (summer) draws large crowds, so book hotels and popular photo spots ahead of time.
  • Many of the historic villas were built as sanatoriums or offices and are not open to the public — follow posted signs.

Tickets Entry to the coastal scenic area itself is free; individual attractions inside (Pigeon Nest Park, Lianfeng Mountain Park, the Strange House Garden, Biluota Tower, etc.) charge separate admission. During peak season it's best to book tickets for these sub-attractions in advance via Ctrip or Meituan to avoid queues.

Hours Open around the clock (the coastal area itself has no gates; individual attractions inside — Tiger Stone, Pigeon Nest Park, Lianfeng Mountain, the Strange House Garden — charge admission separately and keep their own hours).
