Pigeon Nest Park
鸽子窝公园
About
Pigeon Nest Park sits at the northeastern tip of Beidaihe beach and is the classic spot for watching sunrise over the Bohai Sea, ranked first among Beidaihe's traditional 24 scenic views. It takes its name from wild pigeons that once nested on its rocks. Mao Zedong wrote a famous poem here in 1954, commemorated by a stone tablet. The park's landmark is Eagle Rock, an eagle-shaped outcrop about 17 meters tall. Wooden boardwalks lead through wetlands good for birdwatching and beachcombing at low tide. It suits photographers, families, and early risers.

Before you go
- Watching sunrise means arriving before dawn — the seaside feels 8-10°C colder than downtown, so bring a jacket.
- Bring a tripod to photograph sunrise over Eagle Rock (Yingjiaoshi), and stake out a spot on the seaward side of the boardwalk.
- Don't rush off after sunrise — the wetland boardwalk at low tide is also good for birdwatching and photos.
- At low tide you can walk out onto the mudflats to forage for shellfish; wear non-slip shoes and bring a bag for your catch.
Tickets ¥25 in peak season, ¥5 in the off-season; ¥20 for students with ID; children under 1.2m and seniors over 70 enter free with ID (some sources instead list a flat ¥35 ticket — both figures circulate, so check what's posted on site). Prices vary noticeably between platforms (¥5-35), so verify the current price on Ctrip or Meituan before buying. It gets crowded around sunrise, so arrive early to get a spot.
