About

Strange House Garden (Guailou Qiyuan) stands near Baihua Hill on Lianfeng Road in Beidaihe. It was rebuilt in 1991 based on a whimsical 1930s villa designed by an American landscape scholar who once lived in Beidaihe, with the park's name inscribed by cartoonist Hua Junwu. Covering about 999 square meters, the maze-like building is famous for its many doors and windows, hidden passages, tilted floors, and mirror rooms that create disorienting optical effects, each room built around a different fantastical theme. Because it's entirely indoors, it works well as a rainy-day option and is popular with families and children.

Highlights

  • Maze of countless doors and windows
  • Tilted-floor rooms
  • Infinity mirror room
  • Hidden passages and rope bridges
  • All-indoor, rain-or-shine visit
