Beidaihe Wetland Park
北戴河湿地公园
About
Beidaihe Wetland Park sits on the coast of Beidaihe District, Qinhuangdao, where the Dai and Yang rivers meet the sea, forming tidal flats, reed marshes and shallow ponds. Restoration began in 2011, and its core area was designated a National Wetland Park in December 2015. Located on the East Asian-Australasian Flyway, it hosts over 400 recorded bird species, including one of the few breeding grounds of the endangered Saunders's gull, earning it a reputation as a world-class birdwatching site. Wooden boardwalks wind through the reeds, making it popular for walking, photography and birdwatching, especially during spring and autumn migration.

Before you go
- The best birdwatching times are early morning or evening — bring binoculars or a telephoto lens.
- Autumn (September-November) has the widest variety and number of migratory birds, making it the prime season for photography and birdwatching.
- The boardwalk is long, so wear comfortable walking shoes and prepare for sun and wind.
- Mosquitoes can be an issue in the wetlands — bring repellent for summer visits.
- Avoid feeding or disturbing the birds — staying quiet helps you see more bird activity.
- There are few shops or facilities inside the park, so bring your own water and food.
Tickets The park itself is a free public ecological area with no admission fee. Specialized birdwatching or research activities in the core reserve area may require advance registration with the relevant organization — check on-site notices.
Hours Open around the clock (the park itself has no fixed closing time); the best birdwatching windows are just after sunrise and just before sunset, so plan an early morning or evening visit.
Frequently asked
Does Beidaihe Wetland Park charge admission?
The park itself is free; certain professional birdwatching activities or the core reserve area may have separate rules — check the notices on site.
When is the best time to see migratory birds?
September-November during the autumn southward migration is the peak, with early morning and evening the most active times; the spring northward migration (March-May) is also good.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes — the boardwalk is flat and easy to walk, good for family strolls and nature education, though bring insect repellent and watch your footing.
Is it the same place as Pigeon Nest Park?
No. Pigeon Nest Park (Yingjiao Park) is a separate paid attraction famous for sunrise; Beidaihe Wetland Park features reed marshes and birdwatching boardwalks — they're nearby but distinct.
